For years I had collected pictures and images that inspired me and kept them in a folder on my desktop. It was poorly organized and often the same picture was thrown in the folder multiple times. I was rarely able to find the images I had saved once they entered the shuffle and ultimately my efforts were useless.
But recently things have changed thanks to an amazing new website called Pinterest, a virtual pin board for organizing creative inspiration. Pinterest has fast become a serious addiction and a lot of my artist friends are also hooked. But don’t worry, it’s a good thing. For people who love to organize, this site is a dream come true. Pinterest is intuitive, easy to use, and best of all, it’s free!
Since joining just a few months ago, I have pinned over 2,300 images and created 23 boards. I’ve spent countless hours delighting in the endless stream of inspiring pins. Pinterest has without a doubt changed the way I work and create. I consult my boards for inspiration before starting any new project. The site helps me recognize emerging industry trends and styles. It’s the first thing I check in the morning and the last thing I look at before going to bed at night.
Pinterest is amazing because you can pin anything that inspires you. There are no limits. If you love the color orange, you can make a pin board to collect only images that are orange. If you love to cook, you can create a recipe board. If you are renovating your bathroom, you can pin inspiration pictures to a bathroom redesign pin board. Pinterest attracts a wide range of creatives – from professionals to curious spectators. I follow a broad range of people that include Southern house wives, antiques dealers, vintage enthusiasts and publishing executives!
Here are some pin boards you should create to help you organize your inspiration:
- Projects: create a board to collect specific images for a new creative project like redesigning business cards or a website.
- Creative Inspiration: find images and illustrated quotes that inspire and make you come alive.
- DIY: check out projects you want to try out.
- Home: collect ideas for apartment/house/dorm room updates.
- Recipes: try making a new tasty dish.
- Places: explore fun locations you want to visit.
- Colors: keeping track of you favorite colors and discover new color trends.
- Fashion: discover your personal style.
- Design: collect inviting identities, beautiful fonts and unique layouts.
The list could go on forever and there are endless possibilities! Pinterest has changed how I work and has offered tons of new inspiration daily. If you’re not already on Pinterest, get on it now, and start pinning!
